Job Description Whats the role? The Privacy Platform team is responsible for building systems and collaborating with other platform and infrastructure teams to ensure user data is processed or accessed according to user expectations. As Etsys engineering systems become increasingly complex, our role in supporting user privacy alongside fast-moving business goals makes the work dynamic, challenging and rewarding. The Privacy Platform team is seeking a Staff Privacy Software Engineer to help lead the team through design, implementation and collaboration with key stakeholders as we work to make privacy the default in our complex engineering landscape. This position is a technical leadership role, and will require leading without authority leveraging strong communication skills to work with engineers of different types as well as cross-functional stakeholders from different backgrounds and technical levels. The right candidate for this job will have experience with privacy infrastructure at scale, demonstrated systems design and implementation, and experience setting technical direction that is aligned with business goals. This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, Privacy Platform. The base salary range will be $201,000 to $235,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States, however candidates living within commutable distance of the Etsy Brooklyn Hub, or within the San Francisco area, will be the first to be considered. Even if located within commuting distance of an office, you will have the option to work office-based, flex, or remotely. What does the day-to-day look like? Architecting solutions to significantly complex, unscoped problems. Systems design is a primary responsibility of this role. Identify and leverage trends within the industry and Etsy Engineering to help us build future-proof, cutting edge solutions to complex problems like data minimization, consent and purpose limit enforcement and subject rights fulfillment. Set technical direction for your teammates Able to lead the team through discovery, ideation, constructive debate, conclusion, milestones, execution and long-term health monitoring Balanced portfolio of written and verbal communication, personal mentorship with peers, and code contributions. The balance will change as the work changes. Cross-functional and cross-team collaboration. We are working to improve our privacy posture across Etsy systems and this requires significant investment in relationship-building and alignment. Code, product and architecture reviews for teams looking for privacy sign-off or concerns Participating in vendor evaluations for privacy tooling where valuable, and designing integration strategies and technical architecture when vendors are procured.
