Northrop Grumman Space Systems “ Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer “ X-Lab Java Developer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO. Position Overview: The X-Lab is a fast-paced and dynamic environment. X-Lab performs early integration and experimentation with developmental capabilities. This position is for a Mid- Level Software Engineer on the C2BMC X-Lab program supporting the development of future missile defense capabilities. The candidate will primarily be responsible for software development using Java. This position is full time on site at the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) at Schriever SFB and is not a remote work position. A small amount of travel may be required. Occasional off-hours work may be required. Essential Functions: Interact with other people using good verbal and written communication skills Provide in-depth analysis and technical support of a large, distributed system written in Java Perform complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, integration, and user-support for a large code baseline Follow specifications in order to develop or modify functionality within the code Assist with design, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards and improve overall efficiency of the system Design, code, test and implement tools for automation Basic Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience, or 9 years related experience in lieu of a degree. Java experience Strong knowledge of software practices and coding standards Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root cause, recommend and develop a solution Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms Good working knowledge of MS Office products Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start Preferred Qualifications: Ability to be cleared at TS/SCI level Experience working as part of an Agile team Familiarity with Java Spring Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker/Kubernetes Knowledge of server side development and message passing Experience developing enterprise applications Use of common software development and management tools such as git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven or Gradle and Eclipse Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and UML diagrams Security+ or equivalent Salary Range: $95,100.00 – $142,700.00 Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
