Town of Pagosa Springs is looking for a Parking Enforcement Officer 

Description Performs routine parking enforcement work involving the issuance of parking fines or citations throughout Town limits. Work is performed in accordance with established rules and regulations governing parking laws and Town ordinances. Essential Duties Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Performs a variety of non-sworn enforcement duties in monitoring community compliance with the Town’s parking ordinances; coordinates assigned activities with other Town departments and outside agencies. Conducts foot patrol in the central business district looking for parking violations. Investigates reports and complaints regarding parking violations. Promotes community relations by routinely communicating with downtown merchants, citizens, and tourists. Issues warnings and citations for failure to comply with pertinent parking ordinances. Maintains a daily log of activities including public contacts, warnings and parking citations issued. Appears and testifies in court as requires by summons and/or subpoena. Assists, as needed, with traffic control in the central business district. Assisting Police Officers as needed by notifying them of other criminal acts observed; responding to and resolving citizen inquiries and complaint about parking enforcement actions; contributes to effective Town operations by performing other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduation from high school or GED plus sufficient training to demonstrate an aptitude and ability to perform above and related duties AND one (1) year work experience preferably in a field related to above duties; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Subject to background check and pre-employment drug screening. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of the parking laws and Municipal Code of Pagosa Springs and their enforcement. Some knowledge of computerized management information system; personal computer and various applications for work processing, data management and spreadsheet operations. Ability to deal effectively with stress related to public safety employment and parking enforcement; deal effectively with the public in hostile interactions; maintain accurate records; be firm and courteous with the public; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees and the public; use discretion and good judgment; follow written and verbal instruction; operate a two-way radio and understand common radio code; learn quickly the laws, ordinances and regulations governing parking and traffic control; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
