POSITION OVERVIEW & PURPOSE The Materials Engineer will primarily be responsible for ensuring effective assembly and structural stability of the Ambient Photonics products. This role, positioned in Lowell, MA, will coordinate with other departments such as Engineering and Manufacturing to develop and evaluate new and innovative technology solutions. A successful Materials Engineer will collaborate with the R&D department for defining and implementing polymeric materials to enable Ambient Photonics, Inc. technology. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Supports the development and characterization of materials for adhesives and coatings used in electronic products Process chemistry and process engineering to scale up manufacturing Support the design and implement design of experiments to achieve excellent bonding of various layers in the product Optimize interfacial chemistry for higher strength bonding Utilizes and implement microscopic techniques for characterization of bond quality Be the subject matter expert on various materials selection, feasibility, and process development Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration Plan and evaluate new projects, consulting with other engineers and corporate executives as necessary Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Capacity to engage problems and challenges with enthusiasm and curiosity Motivated to build something that hasnt been built before Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to implement solutions Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems Ability to work with management and program representatives at several levels Ability to handle shifting priorities, multiple projects, and timeline pressure to meet deadlines Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment Knowledge of process chemistry, process optimization, new material development and characterization of materials required Failure Analysis, root cause/corrective action reporting BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & COMPENTENCIES M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or related field or equivalent knowledge Experience in developing systems with multiple adhesive bonds with long-term stability Institutional knowledge of self-assembled monolayers, plastics, resins and chemical compatibilities or a strong synthesis background in forming curable monomers. Broad experience with materials characterization tools Rechargeable electronic storage materials experience Experience with thin film or third generation (DCCS, OPV, Perovskites) PV cells) Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPENTENCIES Relevant work in the consumer electronics industry Knowledge of at least one scription platforms such as Python Experience in prevision placement and assembly Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRNMENT Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times TRAVEL < 20 % domestic travel < 10 % international travel Powered by JazzHR Ambient Photonics
